Supplies
Gather some patches of your choice, some pins, a B presser foot, and an iron machine.
Let’s get started.
Step 1
Take your garment and the patch. Next, decide on the place where you want the beautiful patch to sew.
Step 2
Once you get the place to sew the patch on, pin it carefully. Grab as much as a pin you need depending on the size of the patch. Always make sure the pins are going down and coming through the fabric properly.
Also, keep the heads of the pins by the right-hand side, so you can easily pull them out during the stitching process.
Step 3
Hold up; you can’t start stitching without selecting the right stitching style. Now, go up to the stitch menu and select the zigzag stitch. If the zigzag seems wide for sewing the patch, then you need to make a little change there as well.
Go to the option where you can decrease the width of the stitches. For your information, you should employ the zigzag style stitching to sew a patch accurately; because it secures the patch on the garment correctly, and there will be no chance for it to fall off or stick to the garment after a couple of days.
Step 4
It was time to move over to the sewing machine. If it’s a sleeve or a narrow jeans leg of the garment, then you need to remove the case from the backside of the machine that is situated on the opposite side of the needle bar.
If it’s a garment or part of a garment that has a wide opening, you don’t have to remove the case behind the machine. However, take the garment and bring it under the needle.
Step 5
Finally, add the B- presser foot and then start sewing. Narrow sleeves and jeans legs can be a little hard to run your needle on the patch properly. You better do it slowly, so you don’t end up stitching outside the borderline of the patch.
Once you are done with the stitching, give that patch a good press with an iron machine to set it on the garment accurately.
Patching a Hole Or Tear
Sometimes we end up with holes and tears in clothing. Big or small, you can mend it with a patch. You can use decorative patches here as well. If you don’t want a decorative patch, instead, you want a simple patch to cover the area from the wrong side of any garment, then go through the following steps.
First, measure the hole/tear with tape that you have on the garment. Next, according to that measurement, make a patch from a fabric that you would like on your garment. You should make the patch roughly bigger, depending on the measurement of the hole/tear. Now, pin the patch around the tear/hole.
Next, if it’s an area that can be fixed by using a sewing machine, then bring it to the machine. If it has a wide opening, then you don’t need to remove the backside case of the sewing machine. Place the garment under the needle by a single layer that’s carrying the patch.
To stitch around the patch, you can either choose the straight-line stitch or the zigzag stitch. If you want to fill in the patch, you can select any sort of stitch you want, but make some changes with the stitching width.
You can’t always use a sewing machine to sew patches
Why? For instance, if it’s a pocket area of your jacket, you certainly can’t sew that with a machine. Because you could want a patch on the cover of the pocket of your jeans or jacket.
Again, you can’t always patch a tear or hole with a sewing machine eighter. If the tear/ hole is between a seam of our garment, you can’t make use of the sewing machine there.
